Homemade Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Gummies

So, if you have visited the Loving and Laughing site before, there’s a good chance you may have come across a post or recipe of mine in which I am touting the anti-inflammatory health benefits of turmeric. Well, this one’s no different! Probably one of my favorite spices for all of the awesomeness that it contains, turmeric is a strong anti-inflammatory that can be used to relieve pain in a natural way. On top of that it’s loaded with other benefits as well!

TURMERIC BENEFITS

  • Can act as a natural antibiotic and antifungal
  • Helps prevent various cancers such as breast, prostrate, skin, colon, lymphoma, and leukemia
  • Helps heal stomach ulcers and can help to reduce gas and bloating
  • It is antiarthritic and it helps to strengthen ligaments
  • Great blood purifier and detoxifying agent in general
  • Can help to soothe a cough
  • Helps to prevent progression of Alzheimer’s
  • May help to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy

As you can see, this little spice has some extremely potent healing and helpful benefits, and this just scratches the surface with this stuff, which is part of what makes these gummies as good for you as they are! These little guys actually make for a pretty great natural supplement that is beneficial for all kinds of things! Not only do they contain turmeric, but they also contain gelatin – it’s what makes them “gummies”.

Gelatin, or more specifically the collagen in gelatin, has been getting a lot of attention lately among various natural health gurus and the like. With good reason too!  Collagen is what people are trying to create when they make bone broth. It is what has the gut-healing properties along with many other healthful benefits.

COLLAGEN/GELATIN BENEFITS

  • Good for healthy weight management
  • Helps to speed up wound healing
  • Excellent for nails, hair, and teeth
  • Great for osteoporosis and reducing inflammatory levels in the bones
  • Beneficial for cartilage development
  • The proline in gelatin is an amino acid that can serve as a great immune booster
  • May help with sleep quality due to its content of glycine
  • Great for the digestive system

Look at all those neat health benefits that collagen provides. It is important to make sure that you are getting a gelatin that is pasture raised, grass-fed, non-GMO, and all that good kind of stuff. I use Vital Proteins Collagen Protien Beef Gelatin, but there are quite a few good brands out there!

Between the turmeric and the gelatin, these gummies make for a great little tasty healthful snack or even a tasty supplement! They’re awesome to help ease aches and pains after a good workout, and they are also great for the joints, hair, skin, nails, etc, so they make for a pretty neat natural beauty supplement too! So…yeah, pretty much, they’re awesome! Plus they’re SUPER easy to throw together!

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY TURMERIC GUMMIES

Ingredients (makes about 25-50 gummies depending on how big you cut them)

  • 2 cups spring water
  • 1.5 Tbsp. turmeric
  • 1 Tbsp. grated ginger
  • 6 Tbsp. raw honey
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 4-5 Tbsp. flavorless gelatin

Directions:

1.) Place the water in a sauce pan, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat, and add the turmeric, ginger, honey, and lemon juice. Stir to combine well. Add the gelatin by slowly sprinkling it on top while still stirring.

2.) Use a whisk to mix vigorously for about 2 minutes until everything is completely combined and the gelatin is completely dissolved with no lumps of gel. Transfer to a pan that has an area of around 60 – 70 square inches (I used a bread pan). Place the pan in the refrigerator for a minimum of 5 hours – overnight is best – until the gummies are completely set.

3.) Once the gummies are set, take out of the fridge, and use a small knife to cut into bite size pieces. Depending on how deep your pan is, you may get some separation where the turmeric sunk to the bottom (you can see that this happened with mine). This is fine, and it actually makes it look almost like a layered gummy that was done on purpose! Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week.

What a fun little snack, and with all those health benefits, I’d say this is a major win! Enjoy! 🙂
