This is my absolute favorite craft to make. Not only is the result beautiful, but finger crocheting is almost meditative as it focuses the mind on the task at hand allowing the body to relax and fall into a restful and restorative state. I would be willing to put money down that anyone that gives finger crocheting a try can easily become hooked as it’s so relaxing and calming.
At any rate, I started making these when my husband and I were stationed in San Antonio, TX (also why the videos are a bit older – this was about 5 years ago). I was missing my home state of Michigan, so I decided to make myself a big cozy blanket and pretend like we were getting snow like we would have been that time of year in Michigan. Though the blanket didn’t take away my homesickness at the time, it is so soft and cozy that it did provide a nice way to snuggle up in our air conditioning apartment, and just pretend like it was a nice Michigan snowy weather day, so it served as a little piece of home when I needed it.
These blankets are made by finger crocheting. With finger crocheting (as opposed to regular crocheting), you basically just use your finger in place of the crochet needle. Obviously this makes for a much bigger stitch, so this type of crocheting is best for chunky scarves, throw blankets, and the like.
They are super easy to make, and they are really beautiful when completed, so they make for perfect home decor, perfect snuggle material, and a perfect way to ensconce yourself in cozy soft goodness. They also make for a perfect gift as well, as everyone loves a homemade blanket (they just mean so much – if you know you know how much work goes into making your own blanket for someone)!
